Thanks for the warning, Jay. I had not heard of this before. This is bad news but considering the negative vibe I have felt on the street in Bangkok lately I am afraid it fits with the times. The English-language daily newspapers either don’t care or they don’t want to hurt Thailand’s image and tourism.

A British couple who were falsely accused of shoplifting in Bangkok airport and were forced to pay £8,000 in bribes to secure their release are to take legal action for compensation.

They were the victims of an extortion racket that has ensnared other foreign travellers at the airport, which handles most of the 800,000 British visitors to Thailand every year.

Ta ta! Now I have seen Chalerm without braces for the first time in five years. His teeth are even and beautiful and natural. I can’t see he pulled eight teeth and painfully moved the rest. Only if you look carefully will you notice that the corner teeth are not the shape corner teeth normally are.
